Located in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. Eaglenest is Jewel of Indian birding within an area of 217 sq km. The altitude range of Eaglenest varies from 500 m to 3300 m. The range of elevation makes this place an extra ordinary place for birding. Eaglenest comprises a diverse habitat of great altitudinal range of semi-evergreen forest and tropical wet evergreen forest. In last few years, Eaglenest is rated as one of the best birding site in the world, with over 650 bird species in & surrounding forest of the sanctuary.
The birding in Eaglenest is not demanding. The unpaved road connects the whole sanctuary which makes it good excess to the entire altitudinal range. Eaglenest is a notified protected area with the surrounding population of Bugun and Sherdukpen tribe. For last one decade it has been a prime destination for bird watchers from all around the world. Eaglenest as a sanctuary got its main recognition after the discovery of new bird Bugun Liochicla in the year 2006.
Nameri National Park situated on the left bank of Jia-Bhoraeli River in Assam bordering with Pakke Wildlife sanctuary & Tiger Reserve of Arunachal Pradesh. The national park is located in the foothills eastern Himalayas and is a paradise of bird lovers with more than 300 species of birds found in the area. The most important species for Nameri National Park is White-winged Wood duck.
The habitat of Nameri is semi & tropical evergreen with cane and bamboo and moist deciduous forest. The other part important habitat is open grassland along with the river.
Few notable species of birds are ; White winged wood duck, Common Merganser, Great Pied Hornbill, Wreathed Hornbill, Kalij Pheasant, Rufous Necked Hornbill, Ibis Bill, Large Whistling Teal, , King Vulture, Long-billed Ringed Plovers, Hill Myna, Black Stork, Pin-tailed green Pigeon, Himalayan Pied Kingfisher, Three Toed kingfisher or Oriental dwarf kingfisher, Fairly Blue Bird etc.
Sangti Valley and Sela Pass is a very important part of any birding tour in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. Sangti Valley is located at 1500 meters with broad leaf forest, paddy field cultivation and patches of marshy land which is a great destination for Black-necked Crane.
Sangti valley is a well-known destination for speciality species like Black-necked Crane, Ibisbill, Long-billed Plover and Black-tailed Crake.
Sela Pass is a great birding destination for specially high-altitude species where the altitude ranges from 3,500 to 4,500 meters. It is located on Tezpur-Tawang Highway Most of the birding is done along the road side.
The vegetation is dwarf scrubs/ conifers and alpine meadows and patches of Rhododendrons. Some of the key species of Sela Pass are Blood Pheasant, Snow Partridge, Himalayan Monal, Gould's Shortwing, Grandala, Tibetan Blackbird, White-browed Tit Babbler, 3 species of Grosbeaks, 3 species of Rosefinches etc.
The Mandala-Phudung forest region is located in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh in the northeast India. It forms the part of the Important Bird Area (IBA) .The Mandala-Phudung region is located in the higher parts, above 3000 m . The entire Shergaon-Mandala-Phudung-Kalaktang IBA covers lesser part of Middle and Lesser Himalayas and some part of Great Himalayas.
Most Interestingly only few birders have been to this area. This area is known for Gould's Shortwing, Brown Bush Warbler, Red Crossbill, Blanford's rosefinch, Temminck's tragopan, Kessler's thrush, White-bellied Redstart and really good sighting of the elusive rear Red Panda besides number of other mammals.
